Love At First Sight

I remember a friend of mine asked me whether I believe in love at first sight & I told her that love at first sight only shows that one person is attracted by the person's physical appearance.

Is my definition correct? I said so because you never meet that person & you saying that you fell in love with him/her just by looking at his/her face without knowing his/her personality, behavior, habits or likes & dislikes? So, the only thing I can think of is only the physical appearance fascinated you when you say that you fell in love at first sight.

Here's the definition by wikipedia :

Love at first sight is an emotional condition whereby a person feels romantic attraction for a stranger on the first encounter with the stranger. The term may be used to refer to a mere sexual attraction or crush, but it usually refers to actually falling in love with someone literally the very first time one sees him or her, along with the deep desire to have an intimate relationship with that person. The stranger may or may not be aware that the other person has any such notion, and may not even be aware of the other person's presence (such as in a crowded place). Sometimes two people experience this phenomenon towards each other at the same time, usually when their eyes meet.

That may be the case, but what if you fell in love at first sight, and after you know him/her deeper, you found out that he/she is really the right person for you? (looks like I'm contradicting my own view on this)

Here's another interesting opinion about this matter, have a look at this:

So, what say you? Do you agree with what I said or you believe in love at first sight?
Any opinion or comment from you is most welcomed. (should I use is or are?)
**except from the person who asked me the question in the first place. I've heard yours & I
know you believe it.

  1. i think the something else can't really be described. it's jz a feeling that we get when we meet a person. n according to the book 'blink', more often than not, it is true, our first impressions are somehow true. but of course one can't judge a book by it's cover... so there's still tonnes of discovery to make! everyday everyone is changing as they gain new experiences. so i think love at first sight... can be true. and at the same time, they might fall even more deeply in love once they know each other better, to prove that their first impression was right.

ah, very contradicting la. but i'll press the 'post comment' button anyway.

  2. haha...seems like its really "something inexplainable"...

but i agree that no matter how, the pair still need to know each other better even though the "feeling" is there at the 1st eye contact..
